Special Topics in Gifted Education

Some topics come up again and again in Gifted Education:

The At Risk Gifted Student, whether by socio-economic status, race, or other minority status.  These risks can affect all aspects of the child's gifted status, from identification to programming to specific subjects including math.

English Language Learners (ESL) (or ELL, or LEP, or CLD, no matter what you "label" them) have serious issues, with gifted identification measures often written for, and gifted programs geared to serve native English speakers.

Gender Issues affect both boys and girls in gifted population in different ways.

Gifted Adults - we are still gifted, even when we are adults.  And we are still facing many differences that make our lives difficult.  Don't miss Hoagies' Gifted unique articles from both a male and female gifted adult...

Creatively Gifted children are probably the most overlooked gifted population... here a the few articles on their identification and needs.  Mathematically Gifted children are exceptional unto themselves, especially when these gifts are not accompanied by a broader base of giftedness.  Scientifically Gifted... Who?  Humanities Gifted... Are you kidding?  Musically Gifted children are often not identified at all in the schooling process.  Technologically Gifted are often difficult to teach traditionally.  In many ways, these children have the same needs as other gifted children, but in other ways, their needs are very different.

Philosophy is rarely covered in schools, and often on the minds of gifted children.  Use these resources to discuss philosophy and life's questions with kids as young as Kindergarten, in school and at home.
